1. Bartholemew Bartol Gartman,[1] born 12- 9-1708 in Safien Platz, Graubunden, Switzerland,[2] (son of Michel Gartman and Anna Juon) died between 1737-1741 in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.[3] He moved to the United States in 1737.
On 22 Oct 1737, Bartholomew Gartman received 350 acres of land, according to Plat Book 8, pg 526 found at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, Columbia, Berkeley County, South Carolina.
He married Barbara Gartmann, 04-10-1722 in Neukirch, Graubunden, Switzerland,1 (daughter of Matheus Gartmann and Fida Buchli).[4]

2. John James "Hans" Gartman, also known as Hans, (Bartholemew1) born 03-14-1726 in Neukirch, Graubunden, Switzerland,[11] died 10-22-1795 in Lexington County, South Carolina.[12]7
The name of his first wife is unknown. He married second, Miss Deiter,[13] born about 1740,4 (daughter of George Dieter/Teter and Margaretha Luttman). She died about 1822 in Lexington District, South Carolina.3

4. Bartholomew Girtman, II, also known as Bartli, (Bartholemew1) born 07-26-1733 in Safen Neukirch, Graubunden, Switzerland,7 died 07- 6-1801 in Jefferson County, Georgia.[17] He came to Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1737 with his parents,9 and later settled in Georgia. Bartli Gartman was a Planter, Regulator, Revolutionary War Captain and Patriot. He was an organizer of the Regulator Movement in South Carolina. At one point he was arrested and kept in the Charleston Jail. He had a very distinguished record during the American Revolution. He served under Godfrey Dreher and then had his own fort. This line usually spells their name Girtman.
