My Prince Family

Here you will find Prince family genealogy, old photographs, marriage and death records, cemetery pictures, my Prince/Vaughn line, links to family information on other sites, interesting personal effects, and who knows what else will end up on this site!  Roam around and enjoy yourself!

My Prince line has been traced back to England by various researchers prior to their arrival in Virginia.  Research on this family is difficult, as there are many ways to interpret their relationships to each other.  It seems that each Prince family had a William, an Edward, a John, and a James.  So there is a mixture of siblings, cousins, and uncles of similar ages who are difficult to prove with 100% certainty.  However, I will show those whom I feel fairly confident about, and will continue updating my pages as better data becomes available.

My gr-gr-grandfather was Simon Peter Prince, who married Susan Elvina McCauley, also known as Vina.  Simon and Vina lived near Trafford, and both are buried at Bethlehem Methodist Church in Blount County, Alabama.  His parents were Reubin Prince who was born in Morgan County Georgia in 1820, and Crissie Ann Crawley who was born in Georgia in 1829.  Chrissie Ann is buried near the old homestead, on top of a hill in Love Chapel.  Reubin's second wife, whom he married around 1880, was named Susan Ann, but her last name has not yet been found.  They and two of their children are buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama; Reubin is buried in an unmarked grave.

Philander Holcomb Prince, a 1st cousin of my ancestor, Simon Prince, wrote the document "Hardship in Camp Douglas".

Viny's sister, Mary Elizabeth McCauley, married John Cornelius Torbett, and their son, John Walter Torbett, became a prominent doctor in Marlin, Falls County, Texas.  He built the Bethesda Sanatorium & Bath House in 1896, which took advantage of the hot mineral springs in the area.  He was the founder of the Torbett Clinic in 1949, which was renamed in 1990 to Falls Community Hospital and Clinic.

Simon Prince 1850-1929.  Reubin Prince 1823-1912.  The birth and death dates are important, but the most important thing is the dash . . .
