Descendants of: Crawley, Charles, born abt. 1767

Descendants of Charles Crawley

Generation One

1. Charles1 Crawley, born about 1767 in Virginia,[1] died 1849 in Morgan County, Georgia.[2]

Based on very little evidence, it is probable that he is the father of these children. In the 1820 census for Morgan County, Georgia, he is age 45 or over. The only other Crawley in that area is Robert age 16-26, who is very likely a son. Charles has 2 females age 45 or older in the household in 1820. The 1785 Campbell County, Virginia census shows William and John Crawley on tax lists.

He married (1) Jane - - -.[3]

He married (2) Mary Elinor Hughes,2 12-16-1790 in Campbell County, Virginia,2 born between 1770-1780,[4] (daughter of Robert Hughes and Ann Heard) died between 1840-1850, probably in Morgan County, Georgia.[5]

Crissie Ann Crawley, also known as Crissy, Ann, Anna, Crisanny, born 08- 8-1829 in Georgia,[36] died 07-24-1888 in Selfville, Blount County, Alabama,[37] buried in Love Chapel Cemetery, near Trafford, Alabama.[38]

Her tombstone says Crissie A., wife of R. T. Prince.

"Samuel Sulser, Pioneer of Gadsden, Alabama" by Mildred Wright, says the family Bible lists Morana born Nov 6, 1858, Laura born Feb 2, 1860, Delaps born Mar 3, 18- -, and Franklin born Apr 11, 1869. These names were not found on the Bible pages passed down from Maggie Prince. (scanned images available soon on this site.)

There are a lot of unmarked graves at Loves Chapel Cemetery. Marilyn Prince remembers a baby grave beside Crissie Ann, no sign of it in Aug 2001, but there is a lot of empty space beside Ann.

Chrissie Ann married Reubin T. Prince, also known as Reuben, 07- 9-1846 in Morgan County, Georgia.[39] born 07- 8-1823 in Morgan County, Georgia,[40] (son of Daniel and Sarah Prince) died 12-20-1912 in Jefferson County, Alabama of heart failure,[41] buried 12-22-1912 in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama in an unmarked grave.[42] Reubin was a farmer, carpenter, and sometimes miller.[43]

In 1863, Reubin was living in Gadsden, Alabama.

During the civil war, he served in Capt. Steve Dunnegan's company, Ala Reg, and enlisted in 1863. (Is it spelled Dunnegan or Donegan?)

Reubin left Crissie Ann about 1880,[44] for a much younger woman named Susan Ann, and they had a child together in 1880; he was age 47, she was age 22.

He homesteaded 128 acres in Limestone County, Alabama patent #9529 issued Jun 8, 1895.

Reubin's death certificate in 1912 says he lived in Central Park, Jefferson County, Alabama for 14 months before his death.

Reubin did not settle for very long in one place. In 1850-1860 he was living in Morgan County, Georgia, in 1870 he lived in Etowah County, Alabama, in 1880 he was living in Jefferson County, Alabama, 1900 he was living in Madison County, Alabama, and in 1912 he was living in Jefferson County, Alabama.

His brother Smith Prince moved to the Moulton, Alabama area. A lot of Smith’s children lived there, and many are buried in the Moulton Old City Cemetery.
