Mrs. R. W. Vaughn dead.
   Mrs. Martha Vaughn, wife of Rev. R. W. Vaughn, died at their home on route 4,
Oneonta, on Feb. 3rd. Her death was due to heart dropsy and she had been in ill health
for some time.
   Mrs. Vaughn was about 57 years of age and for a long time had been a member of
the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
   The deceased is survived by her husband & two sons, Finis Blakely, of Joppa, and
Percy Vaughn, of route 4, Oneonta; three step-sons, M. A. Vaughn, of Remlap; H. C. Vaughn,
of route 4, Oneonta and Ernest Vaughn, of Tait's Gap; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Keller,
of route 1, Village Springs, and Miss Lois Vaughn, of route 4, Oneonta; four
step-daughters, Mrs. J. B. Horton, of route 1, Remlap; Mrs. J. P. Little, of Village
Springs, Mrs. Hark McCay, of route 1, Trafford, and Mrs. Arthur Sims, of route 2,
Oneonta; two brothers, J. M. Bright, of Cullman, and George Bright, of Marshall
county; three sisters, Mrs. Jane Barnett, Cullman and Mrs. Will Albritton, of Albertville.
   The funeral services were held at Bethlehem church and were conducted by
Rev. T. B. Nation.

James Vaughn Dead.
James Vaughn, son of Rev. and Mrs. Richard Vaughn, of Trafford, R. 1, died at their home Saturday, June 21, aged 21 years. It is said he died from the effects of a relapse of the measles. He was a splendid young man, member of the C. P. Church, and had many friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. B. Nation of Oneonta, interment at Bethlehem cemetery. The services were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The Democrat joins friends of the family in extending sympathy to the grief stricken parents in their great loss.

Deputy Sheriff H. C. Vaughan Killed at Nyota.

Hayden, Al., Dec. 20 - (Special)- Deputy Sheriff Henry C. Vaughan, of Nyota, three miles East of Hayden, was shot and instantly killed last Saturday night at eleven o'clock. It is alleged that Sam Hays of Nyota shot Vaughan with a shot gun when Vaughan attempted to search his car for whisky.
It is reported that Vaughan searched Hays' automobile once, and that later Hays returned with a shot gun and encounterd Mr. Vaughan near the mine Commissary where the fatal shooting took place. It is reported that Samson Hays, brother to Sam Hays, was in the car at the time of the shooting.
Sam Hays, who is alleged to have done the shooting, surrendered to the authorities Sunday morning and is now in the county jail at Oneonta under a warrant charging murder in the first degree.
Sheriff McPherson, Probate Judge J. C. Nation and Solicitor H. J. King made an investigation of the killing and find that there are conflicting statements about the killing.
Mr Vaughan had been either a Justice of the Peace or Deputy sheriff in this part of the County for the last 20 or 25 years and was well known. He was 54 years of age.
Mr. Vaughan was very faithful in the discharge of his duty as an officer, and will be missed in this part of the county very much.
Mr. Vaughan and his family made their home in Hayden until a few years ago when he left his home here and moved to Nyota where he was employed by Morse & McCormack.
Surviving the deceased are his wife, Mrs. Ada Vaughan, his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hart Vaughan, of Hayden; one brother, Burl Vaughan, of Hayden; five sisters, Mrs. Ida Culwell, of Warrior, Mrs. Ethel McElymore, of Trafford; Mrs. Ora Calvert, of Trafford, Mrs. Beulah Mulverhill, of Trafford and Mrs. Mertie Standridge, of Hayden; four sons, Homer of Birmingham; Buster, Clyde and H. C. Jr., of Nyota; four daughters, Mrs. Alma Roper, of Gardendale, Mrs. Mamie Smith, of Gardendale, and Misses Daisy and Lorene Vaughan, of Nyota.
The funeral services were held at Union Grove Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and was attended by one of the largest crowds ever present at a funeral in these parts. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. C. Calvert, of Trafford, with interment in adjoining cemetery.

Hart Vaughan dies at Hayden.

Hart Vaughan, one of the oldest citizens of this county, died at his home in Hayden on Wednesday of last week, his death being due to asthma.
Mr. Vaughan was 82 years of age and was one of the early settlers of that section of the county. He was born and reared In that community and spent most of his life there.
Mr. Vaughan was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and took an active part in the early development of religious activities in that part of the county.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nancy Vaughan, of Hayden; one son, Burl Vaughan, of Hayden; five daughters, Mrs. V. S. Culwell, of Warrior; Mrs. T. T. McLemore, of Trafford; Mrs. Rufus Calvert, of route 1, Trafford, Mrs. Ernest Mulverhill, of route 1, Warrior; Mrs. Henry Standridge, of Hayden; one brother, Richard Vaughn, of Remlap, and one sister, Mrs. A. J. Turner, of Cleveland.
The funeral services were held at Mt. Olive Church Thursday and were conducted by Rev. T. B. Nation, Rev. C. F. Stephenson and Rev. J. C. Calvert.
Owens of Warrior was in charge.
