GRIFFIN, JENNIE J. Age 74, of Pembroke Pines, Flordia, passed away October 2, 1996. Devoted wife to the late Sewell Griffin; beloved mother of Richard Griffin, Michael Griffin, and Donna Griffin Arit; adoring grandmother of Jason, Jessica, Matthew, Paula, Marie, Alexandra, Mackenzie, and Griffin. She was one of seven children: Roy Lee, William, Arthur, and Nethelia Gray, Mava Skelton, and Ada Ruth Nichols. Mrs. Griffin was born in Majestic, Alabama and raised in Tarrant, Alabama. She moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1961 and continued her 41 year career as a supervisor for Western Union. A gathering was held Thursday at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel, Pembroke Pines, Florida. A final visitation will be held at Ridout's Roebuck Chapel in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm and graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, October 6, 1996 at 2:00 pm. BETTY COOLEY DORMAN, of Guntersville, died June 23, 2000, at her residence. She grew up in Jefferson County, attended Bradford, Mortimore Jordan, and graduated from West Jefferson High School. She was a cheerleader and honor student and received her degree from the University of Oklahoma. She retired from the US Army Missile Command as a Supervisory Procurement Analyst. She is survived by daughers, Deborah Hinton and Lisa Britton; son, Tyrus, Jr; sisters, Dot Mays and Rhonda Gravlee; one half brother, John Cooley, Jr.

MR. MARVIN E. (SON) HILTON, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 1999. He was 91 years old and had lived in Bayview for sixty-two years. He was a charter member and deacon at Bayview Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of deacons for over thirty years.

He was retired from US Steel and was past Master of Milton H. Fies Masonic Lodge #722. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hilton.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, beginning at 5:00 pm, with funeral services at 7:00 pm in the Bell Forestdale Chapel. Burial will be at 11:00 am Thursday at Crestview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Norris Hilton and Rev. Charles Click will officiate.

He is survived by: two daughters, Faye (Bud) Aaron of Bayview and Martha (Phillip) Buttram of Pinson; 3 grandchildren, Jerry (Pam) Buttram of Cleveland, AL; Jenny (Randy) Phillips of Crane Hill, AL, and Jill Buttram of Eufaula, AL, 6 great grandchildren, Tanya Speegle of Crane Hill, AL, Timothy Phillips of Crane Hill, Brandi Stewart of Bayview, Brandon Stewart of Bayview, Chris Stewart of Cleveland, Kimberly Buttram of Cleveland; three great-great grandchildren, Nagen Speegle, Drake Stewart and Colton Stewart; one brother, Claud D. (Polly) Hilton of Birmingham. His grandson and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be O. C. Moon, Curtis Fields, Don Salter, Larry West, Larry Aaron, Mac Parsons, and Ben Vines. Bell Funeral Home in Forestdale is directing.

PHILLIPS, ROBERT E. (PETE), age 66 of Ragland, died April 14, 1998. He was born in Ragland and was a graduate of Ragland High School. He entered the US Air Force in 1951 and retired in 1971. While in the US Air Force he served in the Vietnam conflict. After retiring from the US Air Force, he worked for Bonner Acoustical Tile in Gadsden, CAPCO, TEMCO and Bob Roberts Construction, where he was presently employed. He arttended Gray's Chapel Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 15, from 5:30 until 9:00 pm at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Graveside service Thursday, April 16, at 2:00 pm at Ragland Methodist Cemetery. Survivors: wife, Fumiko Phillips, of Ragland; daughter, Robin Phillips, of Gadsden; mother, Viola Phillips, of Ragland; sister, Barbara Dickey Guthrie, of Pell City; brother, Ray Phillips, of Ragland; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
