Mrs. Lula Phillips
Mrs. Lula Phillips, aged 54 years, 1008 First avenue, Elyton, died at a local infirmary at 7:50 o'clock last night after an illness of several weeks.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Johns Undertaking company.

Mrs. Celie Whitlock, aged 108 years, died at her late residence in Mill Village, at 10 o'clock yesterday morning.  Funeral services will be conducted from her late residence in Mill Village at 10 o'clock this morning, and interment will follow in Forest Hill cemetery.  She is survived by several relatives in Avondale.

Major General (Ret) Larry E. Lee will present a slide/lecture on the " Skirmish at Ten Islands Ford" at the Janney Furnace Confederate and Native American Museum located in Ohatchee . Lecture will feature Union General Louvell H. Rousseau's raid into Alabama and Confederate Brigadier General James Holt Clanton's Valliant effort to prevent Rousseau from crossing the Coosa River at Greensport and the Ten Island Ford.

April 10th and 11th, 2010
See reenactors dressed as Confederate and Union infantry, mounted cavalry, and artillery batteries battle for victory each day at 2:00. Janney Furnace Park opens at 9:00 both days. No charge. Visit the Memorial Wall which contains the names of men from Calhoun County who served the Confederate Cause, the Civil War and Native American Museum will be open, visit soldier encampments, purchase Civil War items from sutlers, enjoy Civil War period music by live bands, Army of Tennessee barbeque and/or hot dogs with all the fixins are a must eat, amusements for the kids, and much more.
