W. R. Gray

William Robert Gray, 87, of San Antonion, Tex., formerly of Birmingham, died Monday in a San Antonio hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church in St. Clair County. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery, Brown-Service Norwood directing.

Mr. Gray was a native of St. Clair County.

Survivors include a brother, Arthur F. Gray, Tarrant; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Chamlis, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Zady Gibbs, Birmingham, and Mrs. Dillann Phillips, Ragland.

RAGLAND - Funeral service for Joy Doris Gray, 62, will be Wednesday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Ragland. Mrs. Gray died March 21 in Birmingham. She is survived by her husband, John "Tom" Gray of Ragland; daughter, Charma Crump (Barry) of Pell City; stepdaughter, Renee Overstreet (Jimmy) of Center Point; stepson, Harold DeWayne Gray (Sheryl) of Corner; sister, Peggy Mathis of Dawsonville, Ga.; niece, Donna Sue McCormick of Gainesville, Ga.; and five grandchildren. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

GRAY, MABEL MARIA THORNBURG, age 84, of Alabaster, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008. She lived in Midfield for 20 years and was a Sunday school teacher for several years in her church. She was a member of Columbiana First Baptist Church for six years. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her first husband, O.C. Frazier; her second husband, John Gray; and her parents, Bessie and Floyd Thornburg. Survivors include a son, Don O. Frazier; a daughter, Brenda Frazier (Jim) Young; grandchildren, Nathan Frazier and Noliena Frazier; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Biggers of Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will be Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home's chapel with Rev. Mark Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Ragland. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mabel Maria Thornburg Gray.

Mrs. J. L. Evans, of Ragland, died suddenly at her home in Ragland Friday morning at 5 o'clock of heart failure.  On the evening before, she seemed as lively as usual and her death came as a great shock to everybody.  She is the daughter of Mr. Samuel W. Sullivan, who is still living and resides near Riverside.  She was 52 years old and is survived by her husband J. L. Evans, son of "Old Dr. R. P. Evans," of this county, and nine children, who are all living:  Mrs. J. A. Gray, Ragland; Mrs. W. M. King, Ragland; Mr. C. L. Evans, Cartersville, GA, P. P. Evans, Springville, Cecil N. Evans, Alexander City, H. Herbert Evans, University Ala, Mrs John Barber, Rt. 1, Pell City, Miss Nell Evans, Ragland, M. John Reed Evans, Ragland.

GRIFFIN, JENNIE J. Age 74, of Pembroke Pines, Flordia, passed away October 2, 1996. Devoted wife to the late Sewell Griffin; beloved mother of Richard Griffin, Michael Griffin, and Donna Griffin Arit; adoring grandmother of Jason, Jessica, Matthew, Paula, Marie, Alexandra, Mackenzie, and Griffin. She was one of seven children: Roy Lee, William, Arthur, and Nethelia Gray, Mava Skelton, and Ada Ruth Nichols. Mrs. Griffin was born in Majestic, Alabama and raised in Tarrant, Alabama. She moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1961 and continued her 41 year career as a supervisor for Western Union. A gathering was held Thursday at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel, Pembroke Pines, Florida. A final visitation will be held at Ridout's Roebuck Chapel in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm and graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, October 6, 1996 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by: Ridout's Roebuck Chapel.

ELZORA KELLEY GRAY, age 93, of Ragland, who passed away on August 11, 1999 in Pell City. She was a native of Majestic, AL, a resident of Ragland and also a homemaker. She was a member of Gray's Chapel Baptist Church. Funeral will be Satuday, August 14, at 12:00 noon at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with burial in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery, Ragland, AL. Rev. Doug Ford and Rev. Frank parrish are officiating. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rubin Gray. Survivors: three duaghters, Louise Bice of Justice, IL, Jeanette Pinkston, and Joan Gray, both of Ragland; eight sons, Richard Gray of Glenn Berine, MD, Rubin Gray, Jr. Of Fultondale, AL, Travis Gray, Albert Gray, John Gray and Larry Gray, all of Ragland, AL, Marvin Gray and James Gray, both of Cleveland, OH; 25 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 13 nieces, five nephews, pallbears are Mark Gray, Derik Wolfe, Cathy Bice, James Davis, Matthew Dukes, James Michael Gray, Richard Barrett and Ray Barron.
