The Probate Office and County courthouse for Jefferson county, Alabama is located in downtown Birmingham, next door to the Birmingham Public Library. The library has an extensive genealogy collection in the Southern History Department. If you leave the courthouse on the Lynn Park side, then enter the library from Lynn Park, you will be in the Southern History Department.
This index is huge. On this website are many digital images of pages
from the original book in the Jefferson county courthouse in
Birmingham, Alabama. It is primarily the pages that have "my" names on
them, though there are a few random others. Because the book is thick,
taking 'flat" pictures was extremely difficult. Also, the lighting is
fairly dim in the room, and I didn't want to disturb the nearby workers
