Winter Wonderland at the Creek, Feb 2010

Now I know, for you people up north and out west, snow is nothing to get excited about.  But here in the deep south, it's so rare, we all celebrate for the short time it's here.  Usually, the roads are a sheet of ice underneath, so one can't hop into the car and go riding around, unless you want to cause a wreck.

We had a big snow (for Alabama) in February, and near my area in North Shelby county, kids were sliding down the steep hillsides along the golf course.  I wondered what it looked like 30 minutes north.  The roads were mostly clear, with snow still around the edges, and no ice, so off I went on an adventure.  When I got to the creek in Mt. Olive and started hiking, it felt like I was in a fairy wonderland!  I wandered in the woods for two hours, and hated to leave all this beauty, but the threat of ice forming on the interstate sent me home.
