letter from Anna Hotchkiss Gillespie (dau of Mrs. W. E. Hotchkiss) to Mrs. Marie B. Owen, Montgomery, ALA, stating there are at present (apr 15, 1924) ten descendants of thomas Jefferson in Alabama, her being one of them. Says it was told in one of the Chicago papers not long ago, by Mrs. Champ Clark. “This descent comes to my mother from her father Wm. S. Bankhead, whose mother was Anne Cary Randolph, a daughtter of Martha Jefferson and Thomas Mann Randolph. Of course you know that Martha Jefferson was Thomas Jefferson’s daughter. My grandfather’s mother, Anne Cary Randolph Bankhead, was living at Montecello when my Grandfather was born, but a few months before Thomas Jefferson’s death.”

Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Ridout’s Brown-Service Roebuck Chapel directing. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. N. B. Starnes and Mrs. Travis Faucett, both of Pinson. G. E. Gillespie. Services will be held tomorrow at 10am at Rideouts Valley Chapel for Gordan E. Gillespie, 58 of 307 Ridge Rd. Mr. Gillaspie died yesterday at a Birmingham hospital. A salesman with the Noland Co, he was a life-long resident of Birmingham. Mr. Gillespie was a member of Dawson Memoral Baptist Church, the Lions Club and Woodlawn Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. W. B. Turner of Birmingham; his parents, mr. And Mrs. D. W. Gillespie of Birmingham; two sisters, Mrs. M. B. Starnes of Montgomery and Mrs. T. W.
