Williamson Hawkins and Elizabeth Nations Hawkins, ancestors of the family, were among the first settlers of Jones Valley coming here in 1814. They and other settlers were from South Carolina and Virginia. Williamson Hawkins settled in the western part of the valley near where the Thomas and Woodward furnaces are located.
