Mrs. J. L. Evans, of Ragland, died suddenly at her home in Ragland Friday morning at 5 o'clock of heart failure.  On the evening before, she seemed as lively as usual and her death came as a great shock to everybody.  She is the daughter of Mr. Samuel W. Sullivan, who is still living and resides near Riverside.  She was 52 years old and is survived by her husband J. L. Evans, son of "Old Dr. R. P. Evans," of this county, and nine children, who are all living:  Mrs. J. A. Gray, Ragland; Mrs. W. M. King, Ragland; Mr. C. L. Evans, Cartersville, GA, P. P. Evans, Springville, Cecil N. Evans, Alexander City, H. Herbert Evans, University Ala, Mrs John Barber, Rt. 1, Pell City, Miss Nell Evans, Ragland, M. John Reed Evans, Ragland.

LESTER CLEO PHILLIPS
RAGLAND - Funeral service for Lester Cleo "Cotton" Phillips, 63, will be Thursday, June 17, at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Cemetery in Ragland.

Mr. Phillips died June 14 in Pell City. He was a lifelong resident of Ragland and retired from National Cement in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Phillips of Ragland; daughters, Lynn Denise Phillips and Kerry Regina (Brandon) Poe, all of Ragland; his mother, Katie Phillips of Ragland; sisters, Lillie Mae Craven, Ruby Lee DiGiacoma and Janie Sue Bowlin, all of Ragland; brothers, Lonzo Phillips Jr., Elbert Paul "Boots" Phillips, Lomer Ray "Red" Phillips, J.L. Phillips and Larry Gene Phillips, all of Ragland; grandson, Seth "Little Man" Poe of Ragland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Gene Phillips, Glenn Phillips, Bruce Phillips, Randy Phillips, David Oliver, Timmy Oliver and Marvin Graham.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

RAGLAND - Funeral service for Robbie Lou Campbell, 74, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Ragland with the Rev. Jonathan Whisenant and the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Campbell died June 25. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Ragland.

She is survived by one daughter, Edith Foster of Ragland; two brothers, Doc Campbell and Herbert Campbell of Ragland; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The body may be viewed at the church from 1 p.m. until service time.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

Ragland. With regret we chronicle the death of Mrs. Henry Campbell, which occurred Saturday morning at the home of her son-in-law, Joe Wood. The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Sunday afternoon and the remains were interred in the Ragland Cemetery. "Grandma Campbell" as she was affectionately designated by those who knew her, had lived to the ripe old age of 102 years. Her husband who died about two years ago was 105 years of age at his death.

PELL CITY - Funeral service for Albert Nelson Bunt, 62, will be Thursday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Bunt died Sept. 26 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of St. Clair County and he served in the U.S. Navy where he had two deployments to Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Etta Mae Bunt.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Bunt of Pell City; daughters, Amy Oden of Point Mugu, Calif., and Beth Bunt of Ragland; son, Phillip Bunt of Ragland; sister, Iva Mae Crump of Leeds; brothers, Billy Bunt of Ragland and Robert Bunt of Pell City; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be David Nixon, Doug Nixon, Kevin Oden, Johnathan Barksdale, Brady Bunt and Tony Bunt.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

Died, Oct. 26, 1928, Rev. J.C. Bice aged 83 years, at his home near Ashville, where he had lived for the past thirty-six years. He leaves to mourn his departure 3 sons, and 4 daughters. N.S. Bice, N.A. Bice, J.W. Bice, Miss Mary Bice, Mrs. M.N. Williams, Mrs. T.J. Williams (Aunt Sarah), Mrs. Missouri Davis. His place in his community will be hard to fill. He was a loving father and a true friend. He lived the Gospel at home that he began to preach in 1876. He was an Old Confederate Soldier. He was buried at Friendship Cemetery by Masons.  Funeral Sermon by Rev. C.J. Donahoo.

RAGLAND — Funeral service for Bessie Jane Arnold, 99, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford, the Rev. Ives Harris and the Rev. Wayne Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Ragland.

Ms. Arnold died Nov. 25 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Ragland and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday, Nov. 28. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Mary Jane St. John Arnold; three sisters, Flarrie Bunt, Virgie Hankins and Cora Lett; and four brothers, John Thomas Arnold, George Arnold, Willie Arnold and Lonnie Arnold.

She is survived by one brother, Vester M. Arnold Sr. of Ragland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
