Pell City - Mrs. Grady Carlisle Bell, 59, of Bellflower, Calif., died Wednesday at a Longview, Tex., hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were scheduled today at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Ragland with the Rev. John Hastins officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Kilgore Funeral Home in charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Chapman of Los Angeles, Mrs. Carolyn Sue Walker of Montgomery and Mrs. Yvonne Shaffer of Indiana; two sons, Edward James Carlisle of Auburndale, Fla., and William Carlisle of Haines City, Fla., three sisters, Mrs. Katie Phillips, Mrs. Minnie Phillips and Mrs. Lucy St. John, all of Ragland; three brothers, Robert Higginbotham and Buddy Higginbotham, both of Ragland, and Bradford Higginbotham of Longview, Tex; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

William Robert Gray, 87, of San Antonion, Tex., formerly of Birmingham, died Monday in a San Antonio hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church in St. Clair County. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery, Brown-Service Norwood directing.

Mr. Gray was a native of St. Clair County.

Survivors include a brother, Arthur F. Gray, Tarrant; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Chamlis, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Zady Gibbs, Birmingham, and Mrs. Dillann Phillips, Ragland.

Calvert, Ella Estelle Farley, d.2004

Calvert, Ella Estelle Farley, age 87, of Fultondale, AL, died November 25, 2004. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fultondale. Survivors include sons, Perry E. (Betty) Farley of Mt. Olive, Mickey L. (Sue Ellen) Farley of Rowlett, TX; daughter, Mary (Voight) Phillips of Gardendale, AL, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; sisters, Sarah Howell of Birmingham, AL, Evelyn Cole of Opelika, AL; sister-in-law, Hattie Smith of Zephyrhills, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 2:00pm at Morgans at Gardendale Chapel, with burial in Moncrief Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:30 am until service time. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Morgans at Gardendale Funeral Home directing.

RAGLAND - Funeral service for Lester Cleo "Cotton" Phillips, 63, will be Thursday, June 17, at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Cemetery in Ragland.

Mr. Phillips died June 14 in Pell City. He was a lifelong resident of Ragland and retired from National Cement in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Phillips of Ragland; daughters, Lynn Denise Phillips and Kerry Regina (Brandon) Poe, all of Ragland; his mother, Katie Phillips of Ragland; sisters, Lillie Mae Craven, Ruby Lee DiGiacoma and Janie Sue Bowlin, all of Ragland; brothers, Lonzo Phillips Jr., Elbert Paul "Boots" Phillips, Lomer Ray "Red" Phillips, J.L. Phillips and Larry Gene Phillips, all of Ragland; grandson, Seth "Little Man" Poe of Ragland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Gene Phillips, Glenn Phillips, Bruce Phillips, Randy Phillips, David Oliver, Timmy Oliver and Marvin Graham.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

MRS. MARTHA CHRISTINE "DOOGIE" PHILLIPS. Services for Mrs. Martha Christine "Doogie" Phillips, 81, of Ragland, Alabama were held Friday, May 26, 1995 at 2:00 pm from Providence Baptist Church of Ragland with the Rev. Doug Ford, the Rev. Frank Hunt, and the Rev. Shon Phillips officiating. Interment was in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by 2 daughters, Gaylon Brown, Carolyn Hunt; 2 sons, Sidney Phillips and his wife Vicki Phillips, Cedric Phillips and his wife Sarah Phillips; 1 sister, Maggie Holder; 1 brother, Travis St. John; 15 Grandchildren; 16 Great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Phillips was a native and lifelong resident of Ragland, Alabama. She was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, L. Z. Phillips.

MR. AUTMON PHILLIPS.  Services for Mr. Autmon Phillips, 80 of Ragland, Alabama were Monday, January 21, 1995, at 2:00 pm from Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Will Barber and the Rev. Doug Ford officiating.  Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his 5 daus., Ann Campbell, Katy Jackson, Linda Southern, Patsy Yarbrough and Cheryl Bryant; 2 bros., Raymond Phillips and Hester Lett; 7 grandchildren, Kathy Vandersommen, Patti Harrison, Donna Smith, Stacy Southern, Diane Kennedy, Rusty Yarbrough and Katie Bryant; and 3 great grandchildren, Jonathan Yarbrough, Christen Southern and Kim Harrison.

Mr. Phillips was a native and lifelong resident of Ragland.  He was retired from National Cement Company, veteran of WW II and a member and deacon of Providence Baptist Church for 50 years.

Chamlis, Maurice Campbell, d.1979

MRS. MAURICE CHAMLIS, 61, passed away September 17 [1979]. She is survived by her husband, Ellis Chamlis, Ragland, daughter Miss Alice Chamlis of Ragland, three sisters, Mrs. Viola Phillips, Mrs. Leona White, both of Ragland and Mrs. Joyce Tuck of Oneonta.

Also, two brothers, Joe Gay Campbell and Frazier Campbell, both of Ragland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Gray's Chapel Baptist Church with interment in the Ragland Methodist Church Cemetery, Rev. Douglas Ford and Rev. Arthur Greenwood officiating and Kilgroe directing.

SAMUEL EDWARD BROWN, 46, of Ragland, died Monday, June 25 [1979].

Brown is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gaylon Phillips Brown; two sons, Jim Edward and Keith Elbert Brown; and one daughter, Miss Samantha Brown, all of Ragland.

Other survivors include his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Elbert Brown of Pell City; and two sisters, Mrs. Doris Parnell of Ragland, and Mrs. Elizabeth Walker of Mobile.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Providence Baptist Church, and the body was buried in the adjoining cemetery.

Rev. Douglas Ford and Rev. Jimmy Coleman officiated the services with Kilgroe directing.

RAGLAND COUNCILMAN DIES SUDDENLY

The town of Ragland was saddened Tuesday by the sudden death of Councilman Samuel Edward Brown, age 46.

Brown, who was serving his first term as councilman since his election in 1976, was active in numerous civic and community activities including coaching boys and girls baseball teams.

Brown is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gaylon Phillips Brown; two sons, Jim Edward and Keith Elbert Brown; and one daughter, Miss Samantha Brown, all of Ragland.

Other survivors include his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Elbert Brown of Pell City; and two sisters, Mrs. Doris Parnell of Ragland, and Mrs. Elizabeth Walker of Mobile.

BARRON, MR. DONALD, age 62, of Birmingham died May 2, 1998.  He attended Cathedral of the Cross Church and was a member of the Trail Riders Saddle Club.  Survivors include his wife, Zona Barron; daughter, Donna Barron Phillips of Birmingham; four beloved step-children: Cheryl Merritt, Donna Deason, Gerald Deason, Pam Dunnavant, all of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; Brandon Phillips, Brittany Phillips, Shelia and Daniel Merritt, Cana and Judah Deason, and Kevin Dunnavant, all of Birmingham; brothers, Robert D. Barron of Birmingham, George T. Barron of Boaz, and  Charles D. Barron of Huntsville; sisters, Mary Barron Yaw of Birmingham, and Patricia Barron Stephens of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends; Funeral services will be Monday, May 4, at 11:00 am at Gardendale Chapel with pastor Ricky Hall officiating.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5:30-8:00 at the funeral home.  Gardendale Chapel is directing.
